Text on back: Signal Peak, 'El Capitan.' U.S. Highways 62-180, Texas. This famous peak was a landmark during the move West, when the Butterfield State was a main route to California. The limestone caves, partly hidden and easily defended, were occupied by early Indians and the Guadalupe Mountain Range is a rich field for archeologists. The caves served as a favorite haunt for bandits who preyed upon wagon train shipments of gold and merchandise; later they were hideouts for cattle rustlers and outlaws, including Billy the Kid. Vintage postcard is unused and in good condition, slight damage to upper left corner.
